6 GREEN STAR ENERGY RATING
The SCUH was recently acknowledged as the largest public healthcare facility in Australia to achieve the building industry’s highest honour with a ‘6 star’ rating under the green star system for its design and operation.
We are proud to be a part of such an achievement. Our integrated design and collaborative approach with project stakeholders involved in design and construction ensured we delivered a solution that guaranteed maximum longevity and sustainability for the future management of the project. Our direct contribution towards the green star rating was the removal of all PVC cabling and components; in place we manufactured and supplied the modular wiring utilizing our standard XLPE low smoke, zero halogen cable in our pluggable cabling system.
Lendlease main objective was to reduce the RISK factors of electrical services in design and onsite. The specific detailed objective outcomes were identified as:
Lendlease electrical services team led an integrated approach with the key electrical service providers as stakeholders to develop an active process including:
Early engagement with key electrical services
Collaborative team involving; consultant, technology providers, specialist manufacturers & contractors
Early stage design workshops
Services co-ordination workshops
Designing and Selecting fit-for-purpose solutions for best quality and performance outcome
Managing collaborative services team with buy-in to deliver the solution
The $1.8 billion SCUH project was a Queensland Government initiative to address the growing health service needs of the Sunshine Coast community. The hospital opened with 450 beds in April 2017. The new public tertiary facility was delivered through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) contract with Exemplar Health, a consortium comprising Lendlease, Siemens and Capella Capital, with partners Spotless Facilities Services. This consortium would design, build, and partially finance the public hospital as well as maintain it for 25 years.
Why Apex Wiring Solutions
Apex were awarded the project owing to the global experience we have built within the healthcare sector. Having proven the clear benefits of our modular wiring system on over 110 Hospitals in the past 25 years. Working successfully with Lendlease historically on multiple projects in the UK where the end-to-end service Apex provides ensures labour efficiency’s which in turn achieves the desired program and cost certainty.
Apex was engaged to detail, manufacture, supply and deliver the electrical modular wiring system (structured cabling) that was a fit for purpose design for the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) project and ongoing client usage.
The overarching scope and brief for the modular wiring package was to ensure that onsite electrical small power and lighting systems were designed to enable a rapid, simple and efficient installation. This was to be achieved by reducing labour time for the onsite installation, eliminating waste, whilst increasing quality and safety through SMART installation methods and hitting the program dates.
